A High Priest Who Stayed | Apostolic Wisdom Daily Manna

"Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we profess." (Hebrews 4:14, BSB)

Think of an old-style government office. You take a token. You wait. You hope the right person is at the desk today. Under the old order, approaching God had a bit of that feel. Priests stood between you and Him. One man, the high priest, went into the inner room once a year with blood. Everyone else waited outside. The priests also had to be replaced, because they died (Hebrews 7:23). Now read the verse again. Our High Priest "has passed through the heavens." He's not behind a curtain in a building. He went all the way in. And He's "Jesus the Son of God." He isn't a stand-in. He's the Son. That's why the old temple system could pass away. It was a shadow of this. When the real High Priest arrived, there was no need for the shadow to stay. By AD 70, it was gone.
