"In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:16, BSB)
When the power goes off in the monsoon, nobody argues about whose torch is better. Anyone with light becomes useful at once. Jesus says, "You are the light of the world" (Matthew 5:14). Then He says, "let your light shine." Not "work harder to be a light." Let it. The light is already there. Where does it come from? Jesus says elsewhere, "I am the light of the world" (John 8:12). Paul tells the believers, "You were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord" (Ephesians 5:8). You shine because you are in Him. You're the lamp. He's the flame. Think of how this was heard. Israel was meant to be a light to the nations, and Jerusalem was the "city on a hill" the prophets pointed to (Isaiah 2:2-3). That was the shadow.
