"For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain." (Philippians 1:21, BSB)
Most of us treat Jesus like an app on the phone. A good app, perhaps the best one. But it sits beside the camera, the maps and the messages. We open it when we need it. Paul doesn't talk that way. "To live is Christ." Not, "My life plus Christ." Not, "Christ is one part of my life." Christ is the life. Everything else is the screen He runs on. Notice where Paul wrote this. He's in prison, chained, waiting on a verdict that might end his life. If anyone had a reason to panic, it was him. Yet he's calm, because his life isn't tied to his circumstances. It's tied to a Person. If he lives, he lives Christ. If he dies, he gains Christ more fully. Paul had once counted a long list of gains. His Jewish heritage, his strict training, his reputation.
